DREAM ON...

“Hold fast to dreams, For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird, That cannot fly.”

GET INSPIRED...

I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER...

I've been making a list of the things they don't teach you at school. They don't teach you how to love somebody; to be famous; to be rich or how to be poor. They don't teach you how to walk away from someone you don't love any longer; how to know what's going on in someone else's mind and what to say to someone who's dying. They don't teach you anything worth knowing. But at http://jaysview.blogspot.com/ we do.

A GLIMPSE AT THE FUTURE OF COMPUTING BY MICROSOFT

Microsoft just gave us a glimpse at the future of computing.

Someday soon, your smartphone might be able to replace your work PC and home laptop. You could keep your computer in your pocket, because your phone will be your PC.

At its Build developer’s conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) unveiled a new Windows 10 feature called Continuum for Phones.

Continuum will allow Windows to dynamically switch its appearance to fit the screen and device you're using.

For example, if you are running Windows on a tablet, apps will display apps full-screen. But if Windows senses that you have connected a keyboard and a mouse, apps will automatically switch to a desktop experience.

Since Windows 10 phones will run virtually the same code as Windows 10 PCs, you will be able to connect a Bluetooth monitor, keyboard and mouse to your phone, and run a PC-like experience from your smartphone.

Microsoft said the hardware for that feature doesn't exist yet -- phones with dual screen support will have to be built. On top of that, Windows 10 isn't due out until summer.

Big whoop. Microsoft owns a big smartphone company now (formerly known as Nokia), and you can be sure those phones are coming.

Still, the demo by Microsoft's operating systems chief, Joe Belfiore, was still impressive.

As soon as Belfiore connected his phone to his display, keyboard and mouse, his phone's screen appeared like a Windows desktop on his monitor. The Windows Start button was in the bottom left, which he could click to bring up the app launcher.

He ran PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel from his phone, and they appeared almost exactly the way they would on a PC.

The demo was limited. It wasn't quite the "full" Windows experience that you'd expect with a Windows 10 PC. You can't run standard "Win32" Windows apps like iTunes and Chrome from a phone, for instance. You can't resize Windows, and there's no real taskbar.

In other words, you can't throw out your PC just yet.

But one day, Continuum could be revolutionary. Down the road, Microsoft phones might be able to run a fuller version of Windows. Then, you could walk into your office, automatically connect to the wireless keyboard, mouse and monitor, and get to work without ever turning on a PC. You could go home and instantly connect your smartphone to your TV, monitor, or whatever screen you want to be your home PC -- the processing power will all be from your smartphone.

Even as technology evolves (computers are on your wrists now!), nothing beats the keyboard/mouse/monitor when it comes to getting work done. The only bummer is that you have to either keep separate PCs at home and at work -- or you can schlep your laptop back and forth with you every day.

But you always have your phone on you anyway. Wouldn't it be cool if that were the only computer you needed?

Microsoft thinks so. And that future isn't as far away as you might think.

What do you think the year 2030 would be like technologically?

DID YOU KNOW NIGERIA?

NIGERIA- the most blessed nation on the planet. How well do you know the country, Nigeria?

Some years ago, a brilliant lecturer of mine (now late) said something about Nigeria that I waved aside as an exaggerated expression of patriotism. He told my class then that he had traveled to many places in the world and had finally come to the conclusion that Nigeria is the most blessed nation on the planet. I knew Nigeria was blessed but I couldn't understand how he could boldly claim that top position for Nigeria: yes we have oil, gas, landmass–in fact, abundant natural and human resources, but was that enough?
Nigeria is often referred to as the "Giant of Africa", owing to its large population and economy. With approximately 174 million inhabitants, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. Nigeria has one of the largest populations of youth in the world.

Fast-forward to September, 2011. By this time, my doubt had given rise to a burning desire to know the specific things that make us great as a nation – that make us the most blessed people on earth. I felt if I did find these specific facts, they would need to be shared with Nigerians and the world in spectacular ways. It’s been eighteen months of rigorous research since, and now I am convinced that my late lecturer was right.

Here are some facts from our common heritage that should make you proud to be called a Nigerian:

1. Nigeria is home to seven percent (7%) of the total languages spoken on earth. Taraba state alone has more languages than 30 African countries. The importance of this fact is appreciated when one understands that language is the “soul of culture” (as Ngugi wa Thiongo famously said). It is language that births the proverbs, riddles, stories and other aspects of culture that give us identity. UNESCO puts forward that the world’s languages represents an extraordinary wealth of creativity. Linguistic diversity correlates with cultural diversity. This means Nigeria can look inwards and drive itself to become the greatest hub for cultural tourism on earth, and consequently empower its citizens tremendously in the process.

2. The Walls of Benin (800-1400AD), in present day Edo State, are the longest ancient earthworks in the world, and probably the largest man-made structure on earth. They enclose 6500 square kilometers of community lands that connected about 500 communities. At over 16000km long, it was thought to be twice the length of the Great Wall of China, until it was announced in 2012 (after five years of meticulous measurement by Chinese surveyors) that the Great Wall is about 21,000km long.

3. The Yoruba tribe has the highest rate of twin births in the world. Igbo-Ora, a little town in Oyo state, has been nicknamed Twin capital of the World because of its unusually high rate of twins that is put as high as 158 twins per 1000 births. In a video I watched last year on YouTube presented by Titi (a white lady who speaks Yoruba), and which was centered on twin births in Igbo-Ora, one of the locals boasted that every family in the town has at least one twin!

4. Sarki Muhammad Kanta The Great of Kebbi, was the only ruler who resisted control by Songhai, West Africa’s greatest empire at that time. He founded and ruled the Hausa city-state of Kebbi around 1600 A.D and built Surame its capital, a planned city which was almost impossible to penetrate during war. In fact UNESCO describes Surame as “one of the wonders of human history, creativity and ingenuity”, and probably the most massive stone-walled constructions in West Africa. He is listed in Robin Walker’s 50 Greatest Africans.

5. Africa’s oldest known boat is The Dufuna canoe which was discovered in Dufuna village, Yobe state, by a Fulani Herdsman in May 1987, while he dug a well. Various radio-carbon tests conducted in laboratories of reputable universities in Europe and America indicate that the canoe is over 8,000 years old, thus making it the oldest in Africa and 3rd oldest in the world. The discovery of the canoe has completely changed accepted theories of the history and sophistication of marine technology in Africa.

6. Sungbo’s Eredo, a 160 km rampart equipped with guard houses and moats, is reputed to be the largest single pre-colonial monument (or ancient fortification if you like) in Africa. It is located in present-day Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and when it was built a millennium ago, it required more earth to be moved during construction than that used for building the Great Pyramid of Giza (one of the Seven Wonders of The Ancient World). The most astonishing thing is that Sungbo’s Eredo was the biggest city in the world (bigger than Rome and Cairo) during the Middle Ages when it was built!

7. Sarki Abdullah Burja of Kano (ruled 1438-1452 AD), the 18th ruler of Ancient Kano, created the first Golden Age in Northern Nigeria and ushered in a period of great prosperity. During his reign, Hausa became the biggest indigenous language spoken in Africa after Swahili. He is on the list of 50
Greatest Africans in Robin Walker’s wonderful book, “When We Ruled”.

8. The Jos Plateau Indigobird, a small reddish-brown bird, is found nowhere else on the planet but Plateau state, Nigeria.

9. The Anambra waxbill, a small bird of many beautiful colours, is found only in Southern Nigeria and nowhere else on earth.

10. The Niger Delta (which is the second largest delta on the planet), has the highest concentration of monotypic fish families in the world, and is also home to sixty percent of Nigeria’s mangrove forests. You should know too that Nigeria’s mangrove forests are the largest in Africa and third largest on earth.

11. According to the World Resources Institute, Nigeria is home to 4,715 different types of plant species, and over 550 species of breeding birds and mammals, making it one of the most ecologically vibrant places of the planet.

12. Ile-Ife, in present day Osun State, was paved as early as 1000AD, with decorations that originated from Ancient America suggesting there might have been contact between the Yorubas and the Ancient Americans half a millenium before Columbus ‘discovered’ America.”

HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR OF FAILURE

FEAR: False Evidence Appearing Real.

Atychiphobia is the abnormal, unwarranted, and persistent fear of failure, a type of specific phobia.

I gave it my all; I lived my whole life scared of failing until I was finally hunted down by this great enemy of mine. FEAR of failure appeared so real to me at that time. I thought I could just go through life following a path that is failure-free. But I was so wrong. Yea... so wrong was I. My fears grew more powerful than my dreams; it sapped away my creativity ability. I failed real badly. I mean, really bad.

I only recently I discovered that “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”  It changed everything about, It has drove me to become who I am today.

Every morning I wake up and remind myself that:
'I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.'
Have you ever dreamt of becoming a successful? Why are'nt you yet what you so wish you'd become? Could it be your fears?

'Every entrepreneur deals with the fear of failure.
Fear is a problem, because it can damage everything in life. It ruins your productivity, destroys your dreams, and keeps you from building the business you're trying to build. Fear robs life of its joy.

Entrepreneurs are audacious people--forming businesses ex nihilo, disrupting industries, transforming conventions, shaping cultures, and improving lives. We grit our teeth, muster our powers, focus our minds, and make stuff happen.

And sometimes, we're afraid.

In order to do something big, you have to overcome something big. One of the biggest things to overcome is fear. Fear isn't a business problem. You can't solve it by spending more money, working harder, buying software, or delegating it.

You've got to deal with it in other ways. Here are four principles that I've discovered for helping me deal with the fear of failure.

*Accept that failure will happen.

We fear the unknown. Is this business going to go bankrupt or succeed? Will I burn out, or stay alive? Will I lose a million bucks (been there), or make a million bucks?

To deal with fear, let's get the unknown factor out of the way. Here's how: Realize that you are going to fail.

We need to readjust our view of "failure." We tend to think that failure is a bad thing, but that's simply not true.

"Failure" is a matter of perspective. You may have "failed" at starting a company or gaining funding, but look at what you've gained. You're one step closer to success. You've learned valuable lessons. You're that much more experienced and knowledgeable.

That sounds to me like a step towards success.

Thomas Edison said, "I failed my way to success." A pile of failures can turn into a mountain of success, so go ahead and fail. Better yet, fail as fast and as early as you can. Failure is temporary, but success is permanent.

Rather than turn and run from failure, run towards it. You're not running towards disaster, you're running towards success.

*Find the true cause of your fear, and solve it.

When we fear failure, we're at a crucial point of development. We're admitting to ourselves that something is bigger than we are. In this case, it's our fear.

Take a step back mentally, and ask this question: "What am I really afraid of?" "Failure" is not clear enough. There's something more, something concrete.

Keep thinking, and find the big monsters that are freaking you out:

· "I'm afraid that we won't be able to get enough funding."

· "I'm afraid that I'll screw up my SEO."

· "I'm afraid that the developers won't meet production deadlines"

· "I'm afraid that my mailing list isn't big enough."

· "I'm afraid that my content marketing is crap."

Okay, that's better. Now you've distilled your fears to actual objective, concrete challenges.

What do you do now? You can either solve it on your own or ask for help. The biggest gain is boiling down the hairy problem of "fear" into a few scary objects.

This may take a few tries. Once you understand why you're afraid, you can deal with the problem rather than suffer from the fear.

*Never stop pursuing your goals.

Your fear should never erase your goals. As real as fear is, your goals and dreams are just as real and just as big.

Once you've accepted the fear will happen, have a plan for getting back up. Another business to start. Another objective to conquer. Another challenge to overcome.

The minute you start doing something audacious again, those fears will come back. But by this time, you've learned the lesson that your fears aren't worth being afraid of.

And even if your worst fears come true, you always have goals to pursue.

*Do what you fear.

"Do what you fear, and fear disappears." (David Joseph Schwartz)

When you do the very thing you fear, then the fear goes away. You fear failure? Go ahead and fail.

Oddly, we often fear most what we desire most. If we can just realize that the other side of our fears is success, we'll be more willing to do what we're afraid of.

It's easy to type those words on my keyboard, but way harder to actually do what I'm talking about. Doing is never easy. But it is rewarding.

Conclusion
Ask any entrepreneur, world leader, business mogul, high achiever, or otherwise well adjusted person.
Every single one of them has experienced fear. They've also dealt with those fears, not by shrinking back, but by going forward.”- Neil Patel

ESSENCE vs. EXISTENCE

Essence Vs. Existence

I truly believe that everything that we do and everyone that we meet is put in our path for a purpose. There are no accidents; we're all teachers - if we're willing to pay attention to the lessons we learn, trust our positive instincts and not be afraid to take risks or wait for some miracle to come knocking at our door, but until purpose is discovered, existence has no meaning, for purpose is the source of fulfillment.

The extract below from the book- ‘In Pursuit of Purpose’ by Myles Munroe best explains this.

“It was the moment for which everyone had been waiting all evening. The thunderous applause of the excited crowd filled the air after the mayor made the announcement, 'Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to present the annual Outstanding Citizen of the Year award to Dr. Clyde Wilson, Jr., for his distinguished service to this community.'

A well-built, clean-cut young man rose to his feet and walked confidently toward the stage. Sitting at the table he had left were his father, Mr. Clyde Wilson, Sr., and his mother, Emily. This was the moment for which they had waited all their lives--to see their son become all they had ever envisioned for him. As pride filled their hearts, they knew that no one in the room could understand their sense of accomplishment, satisfaction and fulfillment.

Mr. Wilson had always dreamed of being a medical doctor. While his son was still quite young, the father had told him that he would do whatever it took to see that the son could become the doctor the father had never been. Young Clyde's parents had labored at many jobs over the years and had lived without the conveniences of life just to make it possible for their son to attend medical school and to complete his internship. This evening made those sacrifices worthwhile, as Clyde junior now brought honor and respect to the family.

As Dr. Wilson stood on stage, holding the plaque, the crowd rose to their feet. Cameras flashed and shouts of adulation filled the room. Then, as the applause subsided, silence filled the room. Everyone waited for the response of the good doctor. For a moment he stood erect, poised to speak. Then his composure broke and, with tears flooding his eyes, the young doctor pleaded with his parents in a loud voice that mirrored the despair in his eyes, 'Please, Mom and Dad, forgive me. I am sorry, but I can't go on.'

Bewildered and embarrassed by the moment, the chairman helped the doctor off the stage. The crowd stood in questioning shock. What could possibly be stealing this great moment from this successful individual?

As Clyde and his parents drove home that evening, Clyde attempted to explain to his perplexed parents the cause of his uncontrollable behavior. As his words spilled over one another, he tried to describe the frustration that had built within him over the past ten years. 'Everything I have accomplished and achieved during these years has been done to please you, Dad, and to fulfill your life-long dreams. I have become what you wanted me to be, but I have never become who I am,' he said. 'In spite of all the cars, homes and other material things I now have, my life is empty. I never wanted to be a doctor like you did, Dad. In truth, I hate being a doctor. I always wanted to be a musician, but you and Mom would not allow me to follow that dream.

'Please understand. I love and respect you deeply. I know all you have sacrificed to provide me with my education, and I thank you for it. But tonight I realized that I cannot continue living to fulfill your dreams and expectations. I must start fulfilling my own. When I accepted that award tonight, I felt like a hypocrite. Someone I don't even know earned that award because I don't know myself. I want to live. I want to come alive. I want to be what I was born to be. Please set me free and let me live.'

There are millions of Clyde Wilson juniors in our world. Perhaps you are one of them. They are busy, active, dedicated, faithful, famous people who are accepted, respected, revered and admired. But deep inside, they are tired, frustrated, bored, disillusioned, confused, empty and depressed. Their lives are aimless. Day after day they go on smiling, pretending and living up to an identity and a reputation that is different from their true selves. The lie they live and the inner yearning to be freed from the tyranny that binds them are a constant source of internal conflict. Whether black, brown, yellow, red or white, you and I are pulled by destiny toward a meaningful, fulfilling life. This human need for personal meaning and satisfaction is universal. Each of us must discover this personal purpose and pursue it relentlessly, or we will fail to live a rich, whole, meaningful life.”

Essence vs. Existence
Remember you are not an accident.
You were fearfully and wonderfully made; His works are wonderful, Yea- I know that full well.
Your frame was not hidden from Him when you were made in the secret place, when you were woven together in the depths of the earth. His eyes saw your unformed body; all the days ordained for you were written in His book before one of them came to be. How precious are His thoughts towards you, how vast is the sum of them! If you are to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.

Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.

What have you got- Wishes or Purpose?
